Professor of Neurosurgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, currently completing an advanced Complex Spine Surgery Fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. Prior fellowship training includes Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery at Indiana University and Complex Spine Surgery at the University of Calgary / Foothills Medical Centre.

Academic neurosurgeon with more than 15 years of clinical, academic, research and surgical education experience, including 10 complete years as faculty at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. My practice has combined high-volume independent neurosurgery with resident education, clinical research and subspecialty development across complex spine, functional neurosurgery and radiosurgery. I have independently performed more than 3,500 neurosurgical procedures as an attending/faculty surgeon, exclusive of procedures performed during fellowship training.
Complex and cervical spine surgery, degenerative cervical myelopathy, craniovertebral junction pathology, spinal trauma, deformity and reconstruction, spinal endoscopy, minimally invasive and motion-preserving techniques, with experience in anterior and lateral approaches to the spine.
Deep brain stimulation, radiofrequency lesioning, MR-guided focused ultrasound, movement-disorder surgery, neuromodulation, RNS, VNS, LITT, SEEG and ECoG-guided epilepsy surgery.
Gamma Knife radiosurgery and stereotactic procedures, supported by dedicated Leksell Gamma Knife training in Marseille and an academic practice spanning functional, vascular and oncologic neurosurgery.
Advanced training in complex reconstruction, spinal endoscopy, motion-preserving, minimally invasive, robotic-assisted and image-guided techniques, including anterior and lateral approaches to the spine.
Dedicated training in DBS, MR-guided focused ultrasound, epilepsy surgery and neuromodulation.
Dedicated advanced Gamma Knife radiosurgery training.
Ten complete years of faculty service before beginning North American fellowship training; Professor of Neurosurgery (2025–present, on leave for fellowship training), preceded by appointments as Additional Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor.
Dedicated complex spine training under R. John Hurlbert, with approximately 400 spine procedures and exposure to advanced reconstructive, motion-preserving and minimally invasive techniques.
Six-year direct-entry neurosurgery residency and advanced specialty training. Additional qualifications: DNB and MNMS.
My academic work is closely aligned with my clinical practice, with a major emphasis on spine surgery followed by functional neurosurgery, neuromodulation and radiosurgery. My academic record includes 276 peer-reviewed publications, 28 book chapters, more than 3,000 citations and two edited cervical-spine books. I am available for a faculty appointment beginning mid-2027.
Extensive work in cervical myelopathy, craniovertebral junction disorders, spinal trauma and spine outcomes. I proposed the AIIMS Cervical Myelopathy Score and have worked extensively on atypical symptoms of cervical spondylotic myelopathy. My prospective research includes a randomized PROBE phase III study comparing posterior cervical fixation with long-term cervical collar treatment for Hirayama disease, as well as a prospective randomized study of expansile duraplasty in complete traumatic cervical spinal cord injury. I also edited two books devoted to traumatic and degenerative cervical spine disease.
Research spanning DBS, Parkinson disease, dystonia, pallidotomy, neuromodulation and MR-guided focused ultrasound, including clinical outcomes research, evidence synthesis and collaborative projects.
Resident and fellow education, seminars, journal clubs, and morbidity and mortality conferences. I have mentored the dissertations of 10 neurosurgery residents and supervised a PhD candidate. Section Editor, World Neurosurgery, with editorial roles in Neurology India, Indian Journal of Neurotrauma and Frontiers in Surgery.
A broader selection of publications and research projects is available in the curriculum vitae.
